Becoming a Registered Will Draftsman

Meeting the demands for Will drafting services

Lawyers across the UAE and further afield are encouraged to develop or expand their practice areas through becoming a Registered Will Draftsman with the DIFC Wills Service Centre. Only those who are registered can advise on and draft DIFC Wills (as per DIFC Wills and Probate Registry Practice Direction of 9 February 2016). The Practice Direction sets out the requirements for registering as a Will draftsman in terms of professional standing, knowledge and experience.

Prior to the DIFC Will Draftsman registration appointment at the DIFC Wills Service, the applicant must submit to us the documents required in Practice Direction 1 of 2016 (found below) under provision 7, points A to D, that they are providing in support of their application.

The DIFC Wills and Probate Registry course is currently discontinued. In its absence, all applicants who wish to register as a Wills Draftsman, and who meet all the other requirements in the Practice Direction, will have to successfully complete a multiple-choice test in our office. The test will be scheduled once all the necessary documents have been submitted to us by email on registry@difcwills.ae The test is based on the DIFC Wills and Probate Registry Rules, available on our website.

The cost for the DIFC Will Draftsman registration is AED 1,000. The registration is valid for a period of 1 year and may be renewed annually for a fee of AED 500. All our fees are subject to VAT at a rate of 5%.

To help the applicant compile the relevant paperwork to submit their application, please refer to Practice Direction 1 of 2016 below. We have also prepared an explanatory note to give the applicant further guidance.
