Becoming a Registered Will Draftsman

Meeting the demands for Will drafting services

The demand for Will drafting services is growing rapidly across the UAE, not only in Dubai. Last year alone, over 1,400 wills were registered at the DIFC Wills Service Centre.

Lawyers across the UAE and further afield are encouraged to develop or expand their practice areas through becoming a Registered Will Draftsman with the DIFC Wills Service Centre. Only those who are registered can advise on and draft DIFC Wills (as per DIFC Wills and Probate Registry Practice Direction of 9 February 2016). The Practice Direction sets out the requirements for registering as a Will draftsman in terms of professional standing, knowledge and experience. There are currently over 70 lawyers who are Registered Will Draftsmen.

To support those lawyers who wish to be registered but lack the requisite knowledge and/or experience in drafting DIFC Wills, the DIFC Wills Service Centre in conjunction with the Dispute Resolution Authority’s Academy of Law offers specific training courses. To find out when the next course is please click here. The course covers the requisite material over two days and provides 8 CLPD credits.
